Summary

I can see her through the glass door。 She’s smaller in real life than I expected。 She looks the exact opposite of the type of woman that might murder her husband。

Everyone’s heard of Simone Fischer。 The young mother accused of killing her husband in cold blood, one sunny afternoon, while their son played in the room next door。

So when journalist Esme secures an exclusive interview with her it feels like the opportunity of a lifetime。 Simone has remained silent since her husband’s death but after a decade in prison, she is willing to talk to Esme。 And Esme, recently freed from her own toxic marriage, is confident she can get Simone to open up。

At their first meeting, when Esme sees Simone sitting across the table from her in jeans and a lemon tunic top, she is stuck by her ordinariness。 Then Simone begins to tell her story of an abusive relationship where she was a prisoner in her own home, and Esme decides that the truth needs to come out。

But not everyone is pleased that Esme is telling Simone’s story。 And when Esme’s beloved sister is left for dead in a nearby wood, Esme’s life begins to unravel。 Forced to question what Simone has told her, she can’t help but wonder if murder was the only way out of Simone’s marriage。 Why has it taken Simone so long to tell the world the truth? And will the consequences be devastating for Esme?

An utterly addictive and jaw-dropping read from bestselling author K。L。 Slater about the darkness behind closed doors。 If you like Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train you will LOVE The Evidence。

Is that why her husband moves himself back into her home? And whatever did she do to deserve her horrific Mother in Law?As always K。L。 Slater weaves a captivating tale that require late night reading to find out the answers! Just be assured that your giving 5 stars to Kim or K。L。 is more beneficial to you, the reader, than to her -----imaginative writer with the necessary literary skills plus researcher extraordinaire。 Her delivery of this genre, psychological thriller, more than bites the dust for a minimum of 24 hours of not skurrying to worry about the pandemic or the professional tennis players at Wimbledon。 Esme (thank you for the name, Salinger) is a worthwhile woman, Mum, podcast enthusiast to meet and know。

Esme Fox has a lot going on in her life--a podcast that's taking off to new levels, a son who has been tragically injured and who's struggling to find his new normal, a husband (sort of ex) who's controlling, and a sister who doesn't quite get the concept of boundaries and who hates the aforementioned (sort of ex) husband。 Really, with all that, it's only a matter of time before things explode--and explode they do。 By the end of the book you come to understand not just the mysterious events that Esme Fox has a lot going on in her life--a podcast that's taking off to new levels, a son who has been tragically injured and who's struggling to find his new normal, a husband (sort of ex) who's controlling, and a sister who doesn't quite get the concept of boundaries and who hates the aforementioned (sort of ex) husband。 Really, with all that, it's only a matter of time before things explode--and explode they do。 By the end of the book you come to understand not just the mysterious events that happened in the course of the book, but the tragic events that preceded it。 I'm usually pretty good at figuring out twists ahead of time, or at the very least, narrowing it down to two possibilities--but I didn't even get close with this one。 Great characters, great mystery, great misdirection--I highly recommend! 。。。more

This was an absolutely brilliant psychological thriller。 Yet again KL Slater has written an absolute belter of a book that had me totally gripped from the very beginning。 The characters were all described so well and I just loved the way this author brings them all to life in her books。 Every few chapters I kept changing your mind about who the guilty person was, that’s how well written this book was。

The Evidence by KL Slater is about a woman making a podcast (because writing about writers needed a new cliche) who suddenly has her own real-life mystery。 Her sister and business partner disappears, her son was the victim of a hit and run, and she is trying to finish a podcast on a woman who killed her husband。 I know KL Slater is known for twists, but there wasn't anything here that was hard to see coming a mile away。 I wish people would concentrate on telling a good story instead of trying to The Evidence by KL Slater is about a woman making a podcast (because writing about writers needed a new cliche) who suddenly has her own real-life mystery。 Her sister and business partner disappears, her son was the victim of a hit and run, and she is trying to finish a podcast on a woman who killed her husband。 I know KL Slater is known for twists, but there wasn't anything here that was hard to see coming a mile away。 I wish people would concentrate on telling a good story instead of trying to create the big twist that they think will shock us。 The story itself had a lot to recommend it。 The gaslighting alone would have been a lot more entertaining if the author hadn't been trying to be vague in order to set up "aha" moments。 The talking around everything gets tiresome and doesn't always work for me。 。。。more

I love these English dramatic thrillers involving family relationships。 But it makes me wonder whether anybody in England has a functioning family relationship (jk)。 My editor’s mind is always looking for things I would improve, and there are a few in this book。 I think that the social context of self-defense in domestic abuse cases needed more development, as did Andrew‘s character。 However, I would not want to add any length, so i would perhaps cut out a few scenes with Owen’s mother/Esme’s MI I love these English dramatic thrillers involving family relationships。 But it makes me wonder whether anybody in England has a functioning family relationship (jk)。 My editor’s mind is always looking for things I would improve, and there are a few in this book。 I think that the social context of self-defense in domestic abuse cases needed more development, as did Andrew‘s character。 However, I would not want to add any length, so i would perhaps cut out a few scenes with Owen’s mother/Esme’s MIL。 Although, the drudgery of the mother-in-law was really driven home through the dialogue and passive aggressiveness, so perhaps it was all necessary。All told, the book kept me listening and coming back to it which means that I liked it, it engaged me, and I definitely recommend it! 。。。more

The Evidence is another outstanding read by the incredibly talented K。L。 Slater, whose books I can never get enough of!。 A gripping and compelling page turner from start to finish。This is an interesting and intriguing tale that reminds us that it is much easier to consider justification for someones evil actions when we can sympathise with their motivation。 Has Esme created a nightmare for herself and disaster for her family by falling into the trap of becoming so consumed by somebody else’s sto The Evidence is another outstanding read by the incredibly talented K。L。 Slater, whose books I can never get enough of!。 A gripping and compelling page turner from start to finish。This is an interesting and intriguing tale that reminds us that it is much easier to consider justification for someones evil actions when we can sympathise with their motivation。 Has Esme created a nightmare for herself and disaster for her family by falling into the trap of becoming so consumed by somebody else’s story, that she is missing what’s going on right in front of her face?I really enjoyed the use of a true crime podcast in a story which of late have become a very popular feature in some of the books I have read。 I feel that they give a story an extra edge and add more to the overall storytelling and in this case, it works very well。The Evidence is an intense read that had my knuckles turning white as was I gripping my Kindle so hard。 There were so many questions I needed answers to and I was not stopping until I was given them all。 Although I did guess where it was heading, this in no way spoiled my enjoyment of the book and there was still plenty of surprises I did not see coming that were jaw-dropping! All up, another brilliant read from the queen of the psychological thriller!Thank you to K。L。 Slater, Bookouture and NetGalley for allowing me to read an advanced copy The Guilty Wife, which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily。 。。。more
